What Parents Have Told Me...

As a piano teacher, parents have shared with me time and again these three things:

My child’s day needs more concrete structure
For me to have downtime, my kids need an activity
My child’s focus and confidence could be improved.

If you've been struggling with these things, that's okay. There is a reason teachers partner with parents to create amazing opportunities for their children.

How I can make your life easier & spur on your child's musical growth

My name is Brett Pontecorvo and I have been a piano teacher, performer, and music educator in NYC for the last 10 years. I’ve been privileged to teach over 6,000 piano lessons, work on 50 professional musical theatre productions, and help lead 30 educational musical theatre productions for kids. During this time it’s become my passion and full time job to do the following:

Create Daily Structure

By focusing on goals, I work to develop the internal motivation that keeps your children at the piano daily, creating a predictable afternoon activity.

Develop Musical Skills

In addition to piano, students also learn music theory, reading, history and ear training, turning their studies into a lifelong appreciation for music.

Enrich Young Minds

Piano not only occupies children’s time, but also their minds. Studying music has been linked to better math skills, improved focus, and confidence.

Most Parents Are Shocked To Hear What's Possible In Just One Lesson

Compose their own song

Read music from a page

Play a song they love by ear

Kids walk away from their first lesson so excited you won’t be able to get them away from the piano. That allows you uninterrupted time to handle your daily tasks while your children aren’t just distracted in front of a screen, but are actually learning, growing, and being inspired.

The Inspiration Lasts Beyond The First Lesson

As I mentioned earlier, I have taught more than 6,000 piano lessons in the last 10 years – These aren’t one-off random lessons; these are long-term relationships with people. Most students study with me for 6-8 years.

I approach teaching by introducing the same concepts in many forms – largely through games, improvisation, and student-teacher relationship.

Taking this approach has resulted in kids who want to play, practice, and learn; not because they were told to, but because they actually want to.

Still Unsure? See What Current Students Say

“We have been working with Brett for just under a year now and could not be happier. Brett has a wonderful way of breaking down each lesson into different parts – improv, traditional music reading, playing by ear – this keeps the kids interested and curious about learning. He works with both my children, ages 5 and 9, and is able to meet each of them where they are. He assesses their learning needs and accommodates them. He is quick to change directions on a given day if one of the kids is having a hard time with focus. His lessons are thoughtful and fun and my kids enjoy their time with Brett.”

-Alison, Brooklyn NY

“My two boys (6 & 10) both do piano with Brett. Brett’s ability and approach to teaching and engaging my kids in a fun way through games, student input to song/music selection, through incorporating and applying music theory in practical and exciting ways, have my children exploring and just loving their music journey. For me, Brett is exceptional at teaching, adapting his style for each child’s personality and most importantly keeping it fun for the kids.”

-Cliff, Long Island City NY

Brett is great with both of my kids. He tailors to their very different learning and musical styles. He always meets them where they are and makes their time together so much fun. They don’t even realize how much they are learning – which is a lot. In addition to how to play the piano, he teaches them about music and to appreciate music. Brett is a real gem!

Nicole, Long Island City NY

“Since our 9-year-old son Ingo has started taking piano lessons with Brett (2017), we have seen a huge difference from going to a music school! Brett is so engaged and passionate; he makes every lesson an enjoyable learning experience. Now our 6 year old daughter Ella is also taking piano lessons with Brett (since 2018) and everyone at home always looks forward to the next lesson! The kids are working on pieces they truly enjoy, they feel challenged but not pressured, which is important to us.”
